Yes today is my Blogiversary! 

Yes I have been working on this blog for 8 years. 

Some years have been productive and others not so much. 

I will continue to plug away at my blog, 

because it is a place to share my family stories.

Blogiversary

When my calendar noticed popped up that I started in 2010, it surprised me to realize that I have had the blog for 7 years. 

This blog has gone through busy times, and slow times. Right now I am trying to be more faithful in writing. My end goal is still to share my family stories and keep their memory alive. 

 

Yes today is the day my blog turns 3 years old.

It has been a great trip. 

 

I did just received a wonderful Blogiversary gift. I was contacted by a second cousin once removed on my Hartmann (Dad's) side.  This is my hard to find relatives and even some I do know I can't find any documents, well some but not the ones I want like a marriage certificate or death certificate of the wife.  He gave me some new info on a great uncle's side.  He will be visiting with his Dad soon and we hope to gleam more information. 

Here is hoping to new doors opening and brick walls falling down!!

 

This last year has been a little slow for me.  Work commitments kept me busy.  I finally retired and was looking forward to do more quilting and genealogy.  Well life throws you curves and mine are always big ones.  

 

The day I retired I became a guardian of two delightful little girls ages 7 & 9.  So I am very busy being a stay at home Mom.  They have me doing things I haven't done in 20 or 30 years, like bike riding and horse riding.  I have the sore knees and a nice saddle bruise on my right thigh as proof.  

 

I am still looking for family but at a very slow rate. I still plan to post great finds when I find them but in the meantime I am playing with the living!

Happy Blogiversary to Me

Today my blog is two years old.  I had remembered last week but after being so busy with the Expo over the weekend and trying out some of the new things I learned I almost forgot what today was.  Thanks to Thomas MacEntee's Facebook announcement I had a friendly reminder. That is what happens when you don't check your editorial calendar.

I started after the Family History Expo in January of 2010 after being encouraged by Thomas and Lisa Louise Cooke to start a blog.  I am so glad I lisitened.  It started off very humble but with enthusiasm.  I didn't really think I would have a lot of topics to post about but I decided nothing ventured nothing gained.  First Blog post here.

Because of other blogs and becoming a follower of other blogs I have found topics to use as ways to record my memories and to help me share my family stories.  I have meet other people some near and some far.  I have made friends.  Most importantly I have grown and I have started writing the stories of my life to share with my family.  As my tag line suggests:

It started as a place to share family stories

but it has turned into something bigger.

I haven't found any long lost cousins, Hartmann, Spahn, Jirak, so if you are out there please look for me.  My Chaplin cousins have enjoyed what I have shared and that is fun and I am very glad for that and my relationship with them.

Happy Blogiversary to Me!!

One year ago late in the night after attending the Family History Expo I started my blog.  I was trying to sleep and thinking about all the things I had learned and all the things I have had to do.  Since sleep was evading me, I got out of bed and started my blog.  I already had a quilting blog so it was easy for me to start.  It has been a great adventure.  You can read that first post here.

During the expo I had spoken to Thomas MacEntee of Geneabloggers and Lisa Louise Cooke of Genealogy Gems and they both encouraged me to start my blog.  I am grateful that I did listened to them.  They are both encouraging people.

Why am I grateful, I have learned a lot, I have started writing my personal history, I have made new friends and I learned from them.  I have shared with others thinks I have learned and even my cousin heard a story she didn't know about our family.  My blog has helped me grow as a Genealogist.  It gives me things to think about and a place to share my thoughts.  Some of my thoughts haven't been shared yet, but I need to save something for the next year.

I want to thank my 50 known followers and my unknown followers for your visits and your comments.  I actually have more followers on my Genealogy Blog than on my Quilting blog and it is a year older.  Thanks for all your comments and encouragement.

Well last year I was getting up late in the night to write a post this year I have to dash off to work.
